The Counseling Center provides mental health services to students and is staffed by licensed and experienced professionals skilled in handling a variety of presenting concerns. Services are designed to assist students in resolving issues that interfere with their ability to successfully navigate the CSM journey. Services are confidential, voluntary and covered by student fees. In addition to personal counseling, staff is available for consultation, outreach and programming for the CSM campus community.
We offer individual counseling to students who want to meet one on one with a therapist. Our approach to counseling focuses on the developmental needs and challenges of our diverse student population. Counseling sessions address ways students can learn to cultivate healthy lifestyles, make good choices, develop effective communication/relationship building skills, and minimize high-risk behaviors. Therapy addresses problems that may interfere with a student's ability to meet daily demands. Individual, short-term professional counseling can help students identify and resolve personal, academic and/or career challenges.
Career counseling helps students understand the relationship between self-knowledge and career choice. This is accomplished through assessment of interests, competencies, values and desired lifestyle. Career counseling is designed to assist those students who may be questioning whether engineering or science is the best career path for them. The Counseling Center has access to interest inventories and personality assessments that can assist in the decision-making process.
Group counseling and educational experiences are greatly beneficial in building connections, learning and sharing with others who are struggling or facing similar situations. Groups help students feel less isolated, more supported and more equipped to manage challenges.
Programs, Presentations & Outreach
Counselors provide education, presentations and workshops by request for various campus organizations or groups. Faculty, staff or student representatives may request a program by submitting a Counseling Center Outreach Program Request Form.
